There are two types of games to play. The long game & the short game. Most influencers worth following have left the short game, gotten to the long game, had success, and now are teaching the masses. We look to them aspirationally (I want my business like that). We all want the FRUIT of the long game. The problem is that we're pros at self sabotage. And these successful influencers have forgotten why the short game was so needed for a time. 🎙️New Episode on Million Dollar Grit --> Listen on a Browser or on Apple Podcasts 🎙️ My book Million Dollar Grit will launch October 26th and it's the story of the short game I played for 7-8 years. It taught me a lot of lessons that I've taken into the long game, but hear me... Do not vilify the short game. The short game is survival. It's cash injection. It's problem solving. It's showing up to say yes and not stress about the container. The long game is legacy. It's stability. It's relentless repetition and boring SOPs and little tweaks. It's doing the same thing over and over and over. Most self sabotage in business boils down to this:Your nervous system is screaming survival (the need for a short term game) while your brain is trying to build legacy - and those two timelines are in direct conflict. If you are in debt and don't have a spouse that can pay the bills, the long game will feel intolerable. You will put unrealistic expectations on it. Your nervous system will DEMAND a short term game. If you are in debt and have a spouse that can pay the bills and aren't stressed about debt, you will be able to play the long game better. Some of you need a short term game and a long term game concurrently. Some of you need a short term game and the relief from the shame that you aren't building a legacy right now. Some of you need to realize you want a long term game, you've committed to playing it, but your nervous system is stuck in survival mode. xx Julie P.S. One thing to note about my coaching inside of Digital Insiders. I don't coach alone. I am the head of business and marketing advice, but Helen Henley has worked alongside me for 7+ years as the nervous system, trauma informed, mindset mentor with a million certification letters after her name. If you've been looking for a community & coach to call home, I'd love to chat. |
